Grief for Uvalde Texas

Emily Poland, MPH, RN; School Nurse Consultant, Maine DoEd | Published on 5/25/2022
This reflection by Emily Poland, MPH, RN, President of the National Association of State School Nurse Consultants is based on publicly available multiple national news sources on May 24, 2022.

Words seem inadequate to express in times like this. We grieve for the children lost, we grieve for the parents who have lost their precious children, we grieve for the children who lost their parents, we grieve for the staff that lost their students, we grieve for the children who lost their friends, we grieve for the staff that lost their coworkers and friends. We grieve for the community that has lost its sense of safety, for the state of Texas who is now among the list of states who have experienced such violence and tragedy. We grieve for our nation which seems to be unable to prevent this from happening, We grieve for our planet, whose people experience this kind of violence every day, unnoticed.

Let us continue to work towards safe and healthy schools for our children.
I am holding space in my heart for Texas this week.
